Learning the basic rules of photography is the key to moving out of the realm of a beginner. Learning about the basics, such as the way aperture and shutter speed works improves your photography immensely. The problem is, by simply learning the rules and daring not to venture outside of them it can lead to everything you shoot looking very similar and leave you shooting only with conventions in mind and not creativity.

Enter Apple, and more specifically the iPhone. Since the release of the first model back in 2007, the iPhone has consistently outsold the competition by some margin, and with various advancements specifically in the camera technologies within smartphones, it’s no surprise that the source of the most uploaded images on Flickr isn’t a DSLR or a point or shoot, but the iPhone.

Photokina 2012 is creeping up upon us like a creepy thing: 18th September is close enough for us to hold off a camera purchase because we don't want to be "Olympus'd" (camera version of "Punk'd") so close to the possible announcement of new camera models

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past two weeks, a little event known as the London Olympics has calmly swept a swift breeze of excitement over Britain. Ok, it’s been more like a frenetic hurricane storm of excitement and exhilaration, with emotions running so high during the medal ceremony for Jessica Ennis that grown men have been seen crying in Hyde Park. The last time that happened was in July when Madonna decided it would be a good idea to sing live.
