At this year’s CES, Olympus has not only launched the first of their rebranded TOUGH series cameras but also came out all guns blazing with lots of new products. There are no doubts that Olympus will be making waves in the camera market this year.

Get TOUGH!
Olympus mju TOUGH-8000With the mju TOUGH-6000 and mju TOUGH-8000, you have the choice of tough and tougher. The top-of-the-line model in the tough range, the mju TOUGH-8000, is perfect for those really wanting to take things to the limit: waterproof to 10m, shockproof to falls up to 2m, freezeproof down to temperatures as low as -10°C and crushproof to withstand weights of up to 100kg, it can take a veritable beating and still return excellent results. While the mju TOUGH-6000, is no softy either. In addition to freezeproof attributes, it is waterproof to 3m and provides shockproof protection against drops of up to 1.5m. Both the 12 megapixels mju TOUGH-8000 and the 10 megapixels mju TOUGH-6000 feature a 3.6x wide zoom lens which spans a focal length spectrum of 28-102mm. Features such as Dual Image Stabilisation and TAP Control, which allows the camera to be operated by taps on the casing, are also included.

Olympus mju 550WPMake a Splash
With the mju SW series changing to the TOUGH series, it’s interesting to see Olympus introducing a WP series for waterproof only. The mju 550WP aims to offer everyone a compact and affordable point-and-shoot solution whether you are taking shots 3 metres under water or on dry land. With a 10 megapixels sensor, a 3x optical zoom and a 2.5-inch (230k dots) LCD, the 550WP will no doubt be seen at many poolside, capturing the action.

Olympus SP-590UZ26x Ultra-Zoom
With its incredible 26x wide-angle optical zoom, the Olympus SP-590UZ covers an amazing 26-676mm (35mm equivalent) focal length range. With a 12 megapixels CCD sensor, it offers a 2.7-inch HyperCrystal II LCD along with a host of features including Dual Image Stabilisation, Shadow Adjustment Technology and Advanced Face Detection of up to 16 persons for perfectly focused and exposed faces. The SP-590UZ also features ultra-high-speed shooting of up to 10fps in 3.0 megapixels mode.

Olympus mju 5000, mju 7000, mju 9000Featuring optical zooms ranging from 5x in the mju 5000, 7x in the mju 7000, to a phenomenal 10x in the mju 9000, this latest generation of mju high performance cameras combine superior optics and ultra-slim bodied chic. These 12 megapixels cameras each include Dual Image Stabilisation, Shadow Adjustment Technology and Face Detection Technology, as well as Intelligent Auto Mode and the all new Beauty Mode.

Dependable Friendliness
Olympus FE-45, FE-3010, FE-5000Popular for user friendliness and solid camera performance, the latest additions to the FE series are no different. All new models incorporate helpful attributes such as Advanced Face Detection Technology and the innovative Intelligent Auto Mode which automatically recognises the five most commonly-used scenes and adjusts settings accordingly. The FE-5000 and FE-45 offer 10 megapixels resolution while the FE-3010 offers a high 12 megapixels resolution. You can also depend on a respectable 3x optical zoom for your photography with the FE-5000 offering even more at 5x zoom and Dual Image Stabilisation as well.
