Product Details

The 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor is a highly portable standard lens. It is a supremely lightweight lens that offers the more economical f/1.8 aperture, yet still retains the great advantages of D distance technology, making it affordable and capable.

Weighing a mere 0.34lb, the 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor is ideal for travel and still provides low light gathering properties. It is great for scenery, full-length portraits, or close-up photography with an auto extension ring. It stops down to f/22 for wonderful control of depth of field. Thanks to high-grade Nikon Super Integrated Coating, this lens delivers superior optical performance.

Stunning lens, yes you could buy the faster f1.4 but by all accounts the f1.8 is sharper and much cheaper.
This lens would be worth the money if it were double the price...If you own a compatible Nikon dslr (check auto focus for your body) then it's a no brainer, buy it.

This is perhaps the clearest lens I've ever had the pleasure of shooting with. By the time it reaches f/4 the distortion is all but gone. Chromatic abberation is close to nil, pincushion and barrel distortions unnoticable. If you are tossing up on whether to buy a 50mm lens, just buy this one.

You will not be disappointed.

This lens is so light, and so cheap, that it has become the ultimate 'go to' lens for many photographers and its performance outclasses lenses 5-6 times the price. I can't recommend this lens enough!

Be aware though, it will not autofocus on non-motorised Nikon bodies (such as the D40, D40x or newer D3000 or D5000).
