Even on tripods, pressing the shutter can cause a slight vibration, or sometimes the camera is set up to view wildlife and you can’t reach the shutter. In these cases a remote shutter is very useful. Some can even be set up to take long exposure shots or time lapse photography so you don’t have to stick around to constantly have your finger on the shutter.
